Happy Terminology Tuesday!

This week, we are shedding LIGHT ☀️ on two architectural features that filter the sun’s rays.

Brise-Soleil: A sun-shading structure often composed of horizontal or vertical fins that filter harsh sunlight before it reaches the interior. Common on modernist and contemporary buildings, brise-soleil not only improves energy efficiency by reducing heat gain, but also adds visual interest to the façade.
Jali: Often seen in South Asian architecture, a decorative perforated screen typically carved from stone, wood, or metal. Jali panels allow light and air to pass through intricate patterns, creating beautiful lighting inside while providing privacy and ventilation.

See the examples of these elegant solutions in action, and stay tuned for more architectural insights next week!
